Consultation Process
What does a Doula do?
Doulas are non-medical support people. Meaning they do NOT preform any medical tasks such as cervical checks, diagnosis, catching of babies or vitals. Our scope of practice is purely educational, emotional and physical support.
What physical support do you offer?
Doula's offer physical support by suggesting laboring positions, pain management techniques, physical assistance that any other non-medical support person would assist with.

Are you a certified Doula?
I am currently working on my DONA International Birth Doula certification, meaning I have taken all the required classes, and are working on the hands on side of the certification. Not all Doula's are certified but I believe in being as educated and evidenced based as possible, which is why I prioritize this.
What are the benefits of having a Doula?
People who utilize the support of a doula have been found to be 39% less likely to receive a c-section, 31% less likely to use synthetic oxytocin (Pitocin), 10% less likely to use pain medication, and 34% less likely to view their childbirth experience negatively. Doula's are also found to shorten labors by an average of 41 minutes, enhance breastfeeding outcomes, facilitate better infant-maternal interactions and lower rates of postpartum depression and anxiety.
